Located in the town hall, the museum celebrates the history of the three communities which were amalgamated and incorporated in 1986. Irish immigrants began to settle in the area from the Counties of Kilkenny, Waterford, Wexford and Cork in the early nineteenth century, taking advantage of its location to the inshore fishing grounds and the land’s suitability for agricultural development. Exhibits at the museum showcase the community’s military history in an exhibit dedicated to local men who served in both World Wars. Domestic artifacts are also displayed including various dishwares and a spinning wheel. Christian and church life are also featured, complete with a variety of sick call sets, candles, and pictures of former parish priests who served in the community. In addition, fishing and agricultural tools and implements relating to the community’s occupational history are also displayed. Exhibits at the museum also highlight the laying of a trans-Atlantic cable at Middle Cove Beach in 1953 and the Royal St. John’s Regatta record of 9:13, set by the Outer Cove crew of 1901 and were later inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame. The site also has an archive which contains documents and photos of local genealogies, and past community scenes.
