Dorset Museum

The Dorset Eskimo Soapstone Quarry Site consists of an interpretation centre and abandoned quarry site which was utilized by the Middle Dorset Paleoeskimo culture approximately 1,600 to 1,200 years ago. Through a number of exhibits, the centre focuses on two themes: the occupation and quarrying of the site by the Middle Dorset Paleoeskimo and the related archaeological investigations, and the history of the French culture in the area. Other exhibits showcase the prehistory of the Baie Verte Peninsula, and a description of soapstone.
Location: Fleur-De-Lys, White Bay, on Route 410 on the Baie Verte Peninsula.
