Admiralty House Museum

admiralty_house

Admiralty House was built in 1915 by the British Admiralty to monitor icebergs, ships at sea and provide weather forecasts to mariners. The sinking of the Titanic and the First World War prompted the development of a grid of wireless communications stations around the Atlantic, including one at Admiralty House. It served in this capacity until 1927, when the building and land was sold for agricultural purposes. The contemporary museum features exhibits on early communications history, including cable, wireless, ham radio and maritime/naval communications. The museum also features a formal garden available for viewing.
